Yellowstone inspired chess set of thirty-two bronze sculptures is like nothing you've seen before. American Western artist, Tolley Marney hammered each original sculpture on his blacksmith anvil. North American animals and the power of the female apex predator are unique to this chess set design.

Tolley is inspired by his lifetime as a cowboy, farrier and blacksmith. His love of the outdoors, ranch life and visits to National Parks across the American West enrich his artistic vision.

The sixteen "white-side' bronze pieces are finished in Tolley's "Comstock Silver" patina. Only the white-side pawns are hares. To celebrate the strength of the female apex predator, Tolley sculpted the white-side queen as a mother mountain lion with cubs. Both kings are ungulates. Tolley sculpted the elk as the white-side king.

The "black-side" bronzes are finished in Tolley's "Coal Black" patina - a rich carbon dark color with hints of warm copper underlying. Only the black-side pawns are turtles. The queen is a standing mother black bear with cubs. Her king is a bison.

Each bronze sculpture is a hand-poured casting created in an

American Western foundry.

The entire chess set includes:

Chessboard: Handmade hard (dark) and soft (light) wood naturally oiled wood (not stained dark and light). 34" x 34" total size when the 2 parts are put together at the magnetized center.

Rustic wood storage box with steel carry handles and legs. Four dividers in the box. The box holds 32 bronzes, each in a cotton muslin pouch. Height is 25.5", length 29" x 18" wide.

Pawns White (Hares): 5" tall x 3.5" long x 1.5" wide. Each piece stands or sits.

Pawns Black (Turtles): 6" long x 3.25" wide x 2" tall.

Rooks (Bighorn Sheep): 12.25" tall x 4.25" long x 3" wide.

Bishops (Wolves): 12.25" x 7" x 3" wide.

Knights (Horses): 10.5" tall x 8" long x 3" wide.

Queen Black (Mother Bear with Cubs): 13.25" x 4" wide x 4".

Queen White (Mother Mountain Lion with Cubs): 10.5" tall x 6.5" long x 4".

King Black (Bison): 12.5" tall x 6.5" wide x 4"

King White (Elk): 16" tall x 6.5" long x 4"
